The mid-'50s Maserati 300S were designed by Medardo Fantuzzi in the days before wind tunnel and CAD ruled over artistry. 28 of these were built between 1955 and 1958 for competing in the FIA Sportscar Championship where it took second place. The 245 hp 3.0 liter straight 6 was stroked to that displacement from its 2.5 liter predecessor.
This gorgeous model by CMC, with a parts count of 1838, is listed as a 1956 model, but the chassis number visible would have it as #3058 which was built in December of '55. 3058 was last raced in March of '56 taking 1st OA at Willow Springs, CA. From their individual alterations during their builds to modifications made during their racing life, it's hard to pin anything down. I would say CMC probably replicated the restored museum piece. The triple Weber 2 bbls were correct for the car (note the "Weber" tags on them). Anyway, there's so much detail to discover on this model, you can always pick something new on it you missed prior.
Absolutely wonderful! I’d love to have this model in my collection. I did see one racing in the late 1950s. Sounded and looked fantastic. Thanks Rich.
Beautiful! What are those things in the middle of the dash?

@chris It's like exploring a cave. Around every corner is something unique and fascinating.
Beautiful model that I've never really paid much attention to. Your engine detail pics look amazing.
