This 1966 Mustang 2+2 Fastback 289 by ERTL's P-100 line up of pretty well done models, but model appears to be built to be all things to all people. The first think I noticed, oddly, was the engine badging that had it as the K-code high performance 271 HP solid lifter 289, I immediately looked at the rear for the cool dual exhaust that should be routed through the lower valence... not there, just the standard single exhaust. Open the hood and it's modeled as the standard 200 HP 289, or, at best the A-code at 225 HP. The interior looked great with the fold down rear seat and nice seat belts with die cut hardware. I noticed the console shifter was for an automatic... so why was there a clutch pedal? So, basically, if you don't much about automobiles in general, and just like the looks of the first gen fastback Mustang, this model is for you.
Great analysis of this Autoworld '65 (Sorry, not a '66) Mustang! The tires on the model are a bit wonky, as well. However, the fidelity of scaling is extraordinary. As a result, I selected it to serve as the basis of my Gas Ronda longnose 1966 Mustang funny car modification project. And I used the engine in the Gas Ronda "fantasy" transporter hauler. And yes, Chris! I cheated using the 289 CID as a 330 CID.
LOL!
@marty-johnson I corrected the type, Marty. Thanks.

Well.... I would've done the same. That is a great scale engine! And yes, those tires are wonky - I replaced mine. 😎

Yes, an oversite for sure..... aside from that, and those stupid tires - it's a GREAT model! 😎
@marty-johnson Marty I was shocked to learn you cheated by using the 289 for a 330 CID. Is nothing sacred?
