No, it's not an F-350 Dually. It's an Auto Union Type C Bergrenner or 'mountain racer'. Four of these Bergrenners were built with one barely surviving being crushed after being taken to the USSR as war booty, dismantled for its engineering secrets and then disposed of only to be fortuitously rescued and restored. The Auto Union Type C "silver bullet" was an absolute rocket ship with its Roots supercharged 520 HP V16 with a 6 speed transmission giving it a top speed of 204 mph and 248.4 mph with a stromliner body. This particular mountain racer was driven by Hans Stuck winning the 1938 La Turbie event evident by the gothic fonted "Hans" on the cockpit panels. I photographed it with a figure of Auto Union's winningest driver Berndt Rosenmeyer who tried to always be photographed smoking a cigarette to thumb his nose at Adolf Hitler who was a rabid anti-smoker and as titular head of the Reich Ministry overseeing all sporting venues, forbade smoking by all athletes. Because of his winning status, handsome looks and fan popularity he felt untouchable.
A spectacular model of a spectacular race car. Not many challenged Hitler.
"...supercharged 520 HP V16..."
"I noticed your version has brake cooling scoops and mine does not."
- I like this entire display Rich.... those 6 wheels, next-level V16 power, and the in-your-face-Hitler smoking Berndt! - as always, "top shelf" pics!
- Well Marty, you KNOW what to do..... scale "scoop thinness" is the key here, and IMO, you're probably better off if you actually drill 12 tiny holes to insert your rivet-heads (6 per side ). Post pics of this project, but don't cheat! Knowing you - you'll probably just replace yours with a new purchase. 🙄 😏
@marty-johnson I guess you can lose your brakes quicker in a mountain race. I assume yours is the 4 wheel Type C.
I assume yours is the 4 wheel Type C.
Hmm.... 🤔 🤔 🤔 I assumed CMC had made a few "running changes" as they have been known to do, and Rich's replica was newer. It never occurred to me that they may have issued slightly different versions.
Whew, that was close Marty! Now there's NO need to do anything - sleep well tonight! 😀 😀 😀
Actually, it's an unnumbered 6-wheel version.@marty-johnson I guess you can lose your brakes quicker in a mountain race. I assume yours is the 4 wheel Type C.
