The Bertone styled Lamborghini Espada 4 passenger grand touring car was just thing to pack up the kids and head to the beach. Produced in 3 series from '68 to '78. Considering the Lamborghini symbol is the fighting bull and many models were named for famous fighting bulls, "Espada" is the special killing sword employed by matadors... I guess there's a story there. The 3.9 liter V12 used was derived from the 400GT and produced 325 HP. Of the 3 series, the first is the rarest with only 96 produced. By the end of production 1227 were sold. This particular AUTOart model is a late production S2 which replaced the original wheels with knock-off hubs with 5 lug hubs. The V12 in the S2 was bumped to 350 HP mostly by upping the compression. Besides a minor change in the grill mesh, the S2 could be recognized by redesigned dash featuring full width wood fascia. New tail lamps came from an alfa Romeo. Two attempts were made over the years to revive the Espada concept, including concept cars but no production ever happened.
Yeah Rich; this car has "grocery getter" and "kids transporter" written all over it. Lol.
Love the model but don't have it. I must have misjudged it's purpose in life as a grocery getter. Your pictures are superb.
