The 1971 Ford Mustang Mach 1 351 Ram Air was a pretty decent performer. Some liked the larger body style, some didn't. Poor visibility and huge blind spots were a major complaint. Even though there were two versions of the 429 available, this special 351 Ram Air with its oversized intake and exhaust valves and operating ram air hood took the base 285 HP engine to a respectable 330 HP. Due to its displacement, it wasn't eligible as a race car, but on the street, it dominated the other pony cars. This White Metallic car pops even with a snowy backdrop. Model by AUTOart:
COOL. Love the engine shot!
Beautiful pics Rich of an awesome model (and a must have for me ). My Mustang loving best friend had about 25-30 of these over the years. Somewhere there's pictures of us (from '81? 🤔) stuffing a 429 into a '73 when we were in high school. I've never owned one but have always loved these BIG 'Stangs.
Those Magnum 500 rims ALWAYS looked best on these cars. Despite's Autoart's slightly funky color, they look fantastic!
This color with the black accent striping/decals looks great. A friend of mine bought one this color new but with the 429....I was jealous.
This Ford/AutoArt one looks excellent! For some years I had a red one in 1/18 from SunStar. They certainly are distinctive and eye-catching automobiles and diecast models.
@gavin Your black w/ silver accents looks awesome. I wasn't in the States in that '69-'71 period. I saw it in magazines and wasn't impressed. I loved the generation before that. When I got back to the States and saw it in person, it kinda grew on me.
Gavin, the black /silver looks terrific in this car. The Mach 1 is the only model of this series of Mustangs that I like.
I had a '71 Mach1, 429 SCJ Ram Air, Hurst 4-speed, 3:90 locker. I ruled Woodward Ave in that car! I had no trouble dispatching all comers. Well, except for the Mopar 440 Six-Packs. They were literally unbeatable.
When Autoart released their version in 1:18 scale and in almost the same color, it was a must-have model. That was despite the uncharacteristic NUMEROUS errors made by Autoart on this model.
@bob-jackman I agree Bob; the plainer Mustangs of this era pale big time compared to earlier years.
