Ferrari's 1952 to '53 entry in the Grand Prix events in the Formula 2 class was their Tipo 500F2 first bodied as a more streamlined "long nose" and then this "short nose" variant to get more air to the radiator. It was powered by 2.0 liter straight 4 cylinder engine. Alberto Ascari won the World Championship winning every race he entered driving the long nose variant. This Exoto model of the 1953 Swiss Grand Prix #18 (chassis #5002) driven by Giuseppe "Nino" Farina who came in second place behind Ascari. The car was up-engined to a 4.5 liter engine but in a year or so found itself underpowered against the Mercedes W106 and the Maserati 250F.
Hmm.... only 2nd place. Well, the short-nose-theory sounded plausible, I guess it didn't matter much or perhaps that little 4-banger just wasn't up to the task. It makes for a dynamite model though and somewhat resembles an American midget racer. Beautifully crafted & photographed Rich. Bellissimo! 😎 😎
He might have won by a nose if he had had a longer one.
@chris Who knows. Ascari won with the same engine, and he won every race he entered with it. Perhaps he was just the better driver.

....yes indeed, "skills" will always be a factor. 😀
Beautiful model and pictures, thanks for posting this one Rich.
