About 30 years ago, The only 1/18 Ferrari GTO I could find was a Bburago. I bought it in kit form so it would be easier to polish the finish, paint detail and, of course it came with a Cartograf decal sheet that's always fun to work with. Unlike really early Bburagos, the paint on this model was decent and I just buffed out a bit of orange peel. They usually nailed the shape of the 1:1s and generally only suffered from a parts count you'd expect on a $15 diecast. A good quarter century later, Kyosho released their 250 GTO as a later variant of these hand built and continually modified with the Bburago closer to the original Bizzarrini and Scaglietti design. Both models have the 3.0 liter SOHC V12 with the 6 Weber carbs. The spartan interiors helped with Bburago minimalism but the Kyosho obviously has a superior gauge cluster and interior detailing. Despite the obvious differences between the two models, I still display the old Bburago next to the Kyosho.

You did the best you could with your $15.00 Bburago. 😎

Very cool, but no one ever made a song about the Ferrari GTO.

The Pontiac GTO was late to the party.

A friend has a 1/1 Ferrari 250 GTO and a Testa Rossa. While Bill Bennett was visiting a couple years ago I took him over to see the cars.

@bob-jackman - Oh my goodness!  A 1:1 Ferrari GTO and a Testa Rossa???  Wow!  I can barely afford the 1:18 scale model cars!

You did an excellent job on that Bburago Rich. Looks great next to the Kyosho. I have a Kyosho GTO but it is a different casting to yours, having three vent holes in each side compared to your two. Mine is a street version without decals.

@david-green Your's have triple gills and mine has twin saddle bags on the rear quarters. I think there are as many variants as there were cars built.

That was the interesting thing about race cars in the 'old days'. They were not 'one and done' but 'campaigned' many times for years and were constantly being 'tweaked' and modified. I have no fewer than 10 GTO's - not including two of the 'Drogo' cars and they are all a bit different. I remember back in the day when the first of the Kyosho models came out and collectors were up in arms because they did not include spare tires with them. I actually bought aftermarket wire wheels just so I could put them into the trunks of my GTO's

Now that's some dedication to your model building / collecting passion.

I got Bburago's GTO when I was 10 and kept it even after getting the fantastic Kyosho.  I just sold it recently to clear out some space.  It was a good model for its time & price point.  The Kyosho is one of my all-time favorites, though.  One that I never rotate out of the display.
