First, why is this 1970 Chevy Nova coupe called the "Deuce"? The theory is that it was the closest of his creations to the '32 'Deuce Coupe', but it may just be for the old moniker, the Chevy ll. The 350 cid V8 came with standard 350 HP and his engine was rated only 10 HP more. With a 4:11 Positraction rear, this was meant to be a drag car, so why have  power robbing power steering? It was given a Hurst shifter with Muncie 4 speed and a hood mounted tach with a confusing red line Some of the solid lifter, 11:1 compression LT-is were capable of 7000 rpms. Opting for the LT-1/ Z28 COPO 350 did offer plenty of power, without getting crushed by insurance premiums based on horsepower to weight ratio that the optional 427 would have you towing the car to events rather than pay the freight. There were suspension upgrades, front disc brakes and, although this model has steel wheels with dog dish caps, Motor Wheel Spyders, Rally or Cragar SS wheels were optional. With the stock Polyglas tires, traction was hard to come by. In the interior there Dixco gauges under the dash and custom SYC seats and door cards. Only 175 of these COPO Deuces were built and now they go for anywhee between $1- 200,000.

Beautiful car, great model, incredible (As always) photos. I had a 1970 Chevy Nova, brand new. Only WISH it were a Yenko. When the Chevy II first came out, the top of the line was the Chevy II Nova.  By 1970, they dropped the Chevy II name and went with Nova. The "Deuce" comes from the II (2) moniker.

It wasn't until a couple of years ago that I began to notice these cars as more than just grocery getters. A friend bought one about that time with the 350 and four speed which got my attention. While the styling on these cars, and the other GM stablemates, does nothing for me, the performance, with this setup, certainly does. I like the writeup Rich, and pictures, which furthers my education.
