Wow!  This was a surprise!  I literally have no memory of ordering this model.  However, since it's a Mustang, I ain't worryin' 'bout it!  I'll take it!

Today, in So Cal, it's a "Chamber of Commerce Day!"  The weather couldn't be more perfect!  Unfortunately for me, I'm stuck at home with work to do, but I decided to take some time to go outside and snap some photos of the new 'Stang!

Sure, I'll take the model.  It'll display nicely in the limited space I have available.  However, one thing is clear.  ACME ain't the old GMP!  Not by any measure!

I didn't bother taking photos of the engine.  There is nothing about the engine compartment that stirs any mechanical emotion.  It's the bare minimum of detail that harkens to a memory of the old Maistos.  Ditto, the trunk space, too.  The interior is not too bad, but the steering wheel column is way too low.  Gone are the GMP staples of articulating suspension and rotating driveshaft.  The hood pins don't have the straps or pins.  I suspect these nice things I grew accustomed to with GMP models are gone mostly due to the current fiscal realities of producing diecast models with any degree of profitability.  As a businessperson, I totally get it!  Gotta make money to make it viable to do!

However, despite my criticisms, there are some things to like.  The very cool shaker hood scoop is there!  The paint is smooth and free of any orange peel.  The scaling looks pretty darn good too, and seems to replicate the 1:1 well.  And I must admit, having all of the finger-fun-play things I used to enjoy aren't as important to me as they used to be.  Perhaps it's because I've been adding static resin models to my collection, and with most of them, there is nothing to "play" with.  I think my expectations have changed, or better yet, adjusted with the current diecast industry.

This 'Stang does look good & there's plenty to like but when did GMP make this?  This is "old"  HW61 tooling, isn't it?   I have a few of these.

BTW: "Finger fun"  vs.  "Static?"     I'll take "finger fun"  always! 🤨 😉

@chris - I don't recall GMP ever making this model.  I'm just comparing the astounding quality and fidelity of old GMP models with the New GMP, aka ACME.

BTW, I don't understand all of the familial relationships between Ertl, Highway 61, GMP, and ACME.  Their family tree is more confusing to me than the family clans of the Starks, Lannisters, and Targareons!  LOL!  🤣

@marty-johnson HA!  Got it. In short, HW61 tooling ended up at Greenlight & ACME and somehow a few "new"  HW61 models occasionally still show up. The fact that your ACME Mustang doesn't have all the "finger fun"  of the original HW61 'Stang, despite actually being HW61 tooling, is sad but not surprising. As you noted, it was a cost-cutting measure.

It's always 'bout the green.   🤔

This Mustang looks great and I think it is far better to have this Acme diecast available while having to face up to some current market realities. The color is excellent and it certainly will display beautifully !

That's a fantastic & unusual color combo.  I love it.

I thought I remember there being detail differences between the original H61 releases & later ones.
