Alfa Romeo returned to racing in 1966 after its absence since the early 1950s. They purchased the race prepping firm Autodelta that was founded by engineer Franco Chiti. Alfa relocated the company to Portobello to become their official racing department. From there the built the Type (Project) 33.2 Daytona with the '2' for the 2 liter class. Chiti's little 2.0 liter V8 pushed an astounding 270 HP for this mid engine car. Somewhere between 28 and 30 were made to homologate the car for the FIA to compete for the Championship for Sports Prototypes in Group 4. The Alfa 33.2 racked up many class wins including a 1-2-3 at the 1968 Daytona (hence it's name) So successful and popular from the 1969. that 18 road cars (Type 33 Stradale) were built and sold. The Type 33 moved up in class as Chiti reworked the engines. First came a 315HP 2.5 liter and then a 400 HP 3.0 that was a star in Steve McQueens 1971"Le Mans) In a few years came the 33 TT12 with its 500 HP flat V12 that got Alfa back into Formula one racing.
The model of the Daytona winning 33.2 is by Ricko. It's neither at the precision or cost of an Exoto, but it is one of their better models.
Interesting..... I've never seen this Ricko model, but I can see why you would like it Rich.
I have never heard of them, time for me to go shopping lol.
