This 1957 Mercury Convertible Cruiser in "Sun Glitter Yellow" demonstrates the huge departure from the '55-'56 platform with this futuristic flagship model on a 122" wheelbase. Mercury grabbed 368 cid V8 from the Continental Mkll with with a single 4 bbl Holley produced 290 HP made to compete with Buick and Oldsmobile. To compete with the Chrysler 300, the M-335 option of 2X4 bbls bumped the horsepower to 335. The push button 3-speed Merc-O-Matic was the only transmission offered. If you wanted more economy, the 255 HP 312 Y-block was actually an option. The interior offer luxe upholstery, a futuristic padded dash, trip and average speed readouts, with flattened steering wheel, "Seat-O-Matic" memory positions. There were both twin and quad headlamp configurations as quad headlamps were not yet legal in all states (New Jersey was a pain in the butt with a lot of regulations) This Yat Ming model had really good bones but lacked a lot of details. I bought brochures from eBay to help detailing, especially in the interior that required a lot of chrome trim painted dash and steering wheel. The exterior got paint, blackwash of the wheel covers, side spears and cowl vents. I made the fender medallions 3-D and... a bunch of other stuff I won't bore you with. I bought aftermarket decals to make it the Indy Pace Car, but then decided against it.
Rich, I find it amazing how you transformed this Mercury model.

It is a really beautiful 1957 Mercury car and Yat Ming 1/18 replica of it ! The enhancement are the icing on the cake and help bring out the great looks of this one. I have that same color standard YM and it is a real favorite.
