Smokey Yunick's stripped-down 1957 Chevrolet 210 poster/coupe that the late Paul Goldsmith ran at Daytona and NASCAR speed trials. It's fuel injected 283 V8 produced 245 HP. The actual car no longer exists, but there are a slew of tribute cars made over the years. This Black/Gold ACME model in race day livery was an LE of 1250 with serialized number plate. It features working suspension and rotating driveshaft. The lock stripped hood and trunk deck are secured with bungee cords. I love the aggressive stance on this badass '57.
It's VERY cool, but I wish HW61/ACME had tooled the proper 2-dr hardtop car that Smokey/Paul used - it was never a 2-dr sedan.
Plus, the front wheel track's a bit wide on these HW61 '57 Chevys; I've narrowed a few of them on the ones I have but haven't yet gotten around to all of them.
GREAT pics Rich, you really did capture that "racer look!" 😎 😎
Here's and adjusted front track:
Here's Paul Goldsmith's '69 Ddoge:
That’s gotta be when bungee cords were made to last. 👍
You know hardtop vs poster is a bit confusing. When I first posted this model way back when I also called it a Tribute Model. AI seems to equivocate on the subject. Then I saw an old B&W of the #3 at Daytona and it appeared to be a poster.
or maybe the roll cage vertical is just in the right spot. I'm surprised ACME didn't do the more notorious 150 utility sedan poster "Black Widow". Just pull the back seats out and give it a checker board wrap.
"Then I saw an old B&W of the #3 at Daytona and it appeared to be a poster."
- It's clearly a hardtop, not a sedan.
- Yes, I know ACME called it a "tribute model," but they could've tooled a hardtop! Yes, yes, I know it's ALWAYS about money, but..... 🙄 🙄
- ACME didn't do any "Black Widow" cars because HW61 did them - 3 or 4 - I believe.
@chris Are the H61s any good? Come to think of it, it's the same tooling, so....
I just recently picked up a Black Widow in 1/64 scale. Quite a nice model.
@bob-jackman ...if it's this one, by Hot Wheels (racing legend series ) you could hardly do better. I love mine!
Yes one of the few race cars in my collection. IXO also did one recently without the race car numbers and other decals.
