Best muscle car for $50??
I have a little money to spend after Christmas and would like to add to my 1:18 muscle car collection. Any thoughts on the best medium-priced unit out there? I'm leaning toward the Hwy 61 1970 Hemi 'Cuda (there's one or two on ebay) but would like opinions. Thanks!
Jody, the Muscle Car offerings from Highway 61 are sure bet!
Excellent quality, outstanding detail, just an all around fine product.
Jody, FYI, I just went over the new H-61 Dodge Coronet R/T, and 383 '68 Barracuda
I was disappointed by the R/T for many reasons, not quite as good
as the first release '67 GTX. side pin stripes were about 5 inches in
the wrong location, and a hundred other things that could have
been done correctly with little or no increase in cost. The new '68
Barracuda is better, but has the terrible rear axle location that all
my first run '70 Hemi, and AAR cuda's have. the wheels sit way too
far back in the wheel well, really kinda ruins the whole model. I
would have figured they would be watching for this by the time this
'68 came along???? The engines are good for the price point, but
the accuracy is not really that good, I suggest for a best detail,
quality for the price model, go for an Auto Art '67-'71 Mustang, or
the
Highway 61 '67 GTX of the later colors-red, or bronze. The '68
Dart's are nice, but have some of the detail and accuracy issues
the R/T's have.
Those are your best bets. if you like Chevy's save a bit more and
get the Lane '70 Chevelle, or one of the '65's, or the GMP Olds. or
Pontiacs. Just my 2 cents.
Can you elaborate?...
...on the rear axle problem. This is the first criticism I've heard of the Hwy 61 '70 Cudas. Thanks again!
Under $50? The Precision 100 Ford Thunderbolt is well worth a look and can generally be had on the secondary market at between $39-49.99. I have the white on and it's stunning.
Jody, the wheel base measured from center of front tire to center of rear tire is too big, but dista nce between the wheel wells is correct. thus the tires at rear are
way too far back towards rear bumper in the wells. looks funny.
I am told the new ones coming out next will have this corrected.
however the new '68 cuda has this issue to a lesser degree. at
least mine does. Being such a fan of these cars, and since they are
still so much better than the Etrl versions, I keeping a very few
representatives in my collection. Maybe DM,a nd even GMP will do
cudas. and Challengers?
Agreed Rusty. Bar none, the Thunderbolt is the best deal for a muscle car under $50. i have my white Thunderbolt sitting next to the white GMP Fairlane. No one has ever guessed that the Fairlane cost more than double the cost of the Thunderbolt.
