The Bavarian Motor Works began as an engine builder that provided 6 cylinder engines for the German Air Force in WWl originally as the Bavarian Fleugzeugwerke or BFW. After the war they began building engines as BMW (1922) for motorcycles and then produced their first motor bike. They did this by acquiring the assets of Rapp Motorwerke. They began building automobiles in 1928 after acquiring a company that built the British Austin 7 under license which was marketed as the Dixi. By the 1930s they had expanded into sorts and luxury cars. The Dixi, now the BMW 3/15, was produced from 1927 to 1929 with further upgrades and body styles after that. This AUTOart model liveried as a BMW service van, is very similar to the restired 3/15 that resides in BMW's museum.

Just a great little model Rich, that whenever I see it, I can't help but to think of this 1/18 great little model........ Peter Brock's first car they he built, at age 15, from Austin parts.

@gdh ....don't feel bad, that's what sites like this are for. ALL OF US, sooner or later, get introduced to replicas we've never seen before. 😉

I have a 1932 Austin Deluxe two door sedan by Ricko in 1/18 scale. The Austin and BMW shared the same bodies.
