Back in the mid '70s, I was intrigued by this creepy looking Lancia Stratos that was making headlines in magazines like Car and Driver as the dominating force in the WRC rally circuit. What shocked me was that it was bodied by Italian coachbuilder Bertone whose sculptural esthetic bodies I had admired since their 3 B.A.T. Alfas of the early '50s. I kinda realized that they were building a dedicated rally car and esthetics be damned. Scooping up the remaining V6 "Dinos" from Ferrari, Lancia went all out designing this bizarre machine to do some serious a$$-kicking and it did. I was also struck by the colorful Alitalia livery that really showcased the car's heritage.
Purpose built ass kicker it was. Mission accomplished.
Fantastic WRC rally car and a great use of the last Dino V6s. It is a rather ugly vehicle despite its origins but I would not want it any other way. This model is really well detailed.
...yepper, just plain goofy but man-0-man it did the job! IMO, it looks better in stock form.
Nope. Not goofy enough. LOL...yepper, just plain goofy but man-0-man it did the job! IMO, it looks better in stock form.
