Can anyone offer insight into the BoS Mercedes Benz 540K Autobahnkurier?

I have been a huge fan of the Mercedes Benz 540K Autobahnkurier since I first saw a picture of the car. I see now that Best of Show (BoS) has a model of the car out in 1/18 scale. I'm usually a 1/24 collector, but I'd be willing to get something like that that's not in scale if it is well done.

I would love to hear what you guys think of this model. Thanks in advance for your feedback!

Hi Dan - I have one of these...

Please note that this is a resin model and has no opening or working features - no opening doors, hood or trunk. Front wheels are not steerable. The paint on mine is great, smooth, glossy, no imperfections that I can see. Some of the silver trim on the model (such as around the windows) that should have been chrome appears to actually be silver paint. There was another poster who commented on this same thing and he (I believe) said it was something other than silver paint but I cannot remember what he said or who said it. Maybe if he sees your post he can respond. All in all, it is a really nice model that does display well. On a scale of A to F I would give it a B+ or even A-. Good luck should you decide to get one - you will enjoy it if you don't mind that it is a curbside model.

Hi Brad, thanks for the info!

I don't mind curbside too much. I would prefer operable features, naturally, but my objective is to have as many of the truly great 'holy grail' cars in my collection as possible. You know the ones- the classic era cars that were superbly engineered and then had only a few examples produced? I think the Autobahnkurier fits in that category, and I don't foresee it coming in 1/24 at all. So I may have to bite the bullet and pick one up sooner or later.

Thanks again! I appreciate your feedback!

Thanks Marshall....

I remember that you mentioned it briefly before over in 1/24. I don't remember what brought it up in our conversation. I really appreciate your reposting of the review! I never would have seen it otherwise, and that was a lot of great information! I'll have to look for this in the New Year.

Thank you very much for the info, and for your opinions of this car!

I have it as well. Posted photos here a while back. It is a beautiful model.

I can't speak to any of the flaws, to be honest, I have no idea. The model appealed to me because of the subject matter and the overall look of the model when I saw photos. I love the way it looked. I was not disappointed. The paint is very glossy (gave me a little bit of trouble with the outside pics I took)
To me the stance and general appearance are excellent. What's not to love. It's Black, it's a Mercedes and a fastback. A must have for my collection.
