I was putting together some pics of this H-61 custom 1967 Olds $-4-2 Holiday Coupe "Hurst Hustler" W-30. With its ram air 400 cid producing some 350 HP, it was establishing muscle car street cred that year. The model was a numbered LE of 1000 and came with a pair of optional cheater slicks to throw in the trunk. Suddenly, from out of the dusty archives of my brain came a snippet of the song "Cheater Slicks" by the Super Stocks from the 1963 compilation album "Shut Down" From what I gather from the lyrics, the guy singing had some MOPAR with a 426 Max Wedge that ran around town with his beloved cheater slicks shutting down all the other top engines of the era. The model is pretty cool although frankly, at the time, I thought the car looked pretty cheap especially compared the the full size Delta 88 that had the great GM styling of the Riviera, Toronado and Eldorado. Oh, if anyone asks why there's no seat belts, they weren't mandatory until 1968.
I don't know how many here are old enough to remember the song, but you might get a kick out of it: https://www.google.com/goto?url=CAESZgHrOzAVvcUg4-3DP2NcPjU2IlFlGQZtHv6EDUiP80i7RnQbmOdvDqPfS_vctasWfV-fWzszvU89bIBV2eYAyoI8hLaX2WTY6mkbxF49yAOE4JnLMBKVnbzwbYKI2BkpQixWKqktew
Shucks. I have this model, and I did not realize it came with these cheater slicks. Mine did not come with them. Learned something new. Thanks!
It is a beautiful diecast model and extremely well-photographed here in this brilliant red finish. I have a couple of standard Highway 61 editions of this year Olds and they are certainly all-time favorites.
I surely remember the song and cheater slicks! Just don't get caught driving them on the street when it rains. WhooooEeeee!
