CMC Pre-War Mercedes Transporter (PICS)

OK, boys and girls-- grab your piggy bank and hammer. CMC has done it again! Although most of us think of the "Blue Wonder" when we hear "Mercedes Transporter, the company built a fleet (at least 4) Grand Prix car transporters based on the Lo (Low chassis) 2750 truck to carry two cars and two spares to GP races from 1934 through 1939. None survives the war, but Mercedes engineers built and exact replica and CMC has modeled that to perfection. With 2365 (that's right, 2365!) parts every detail is there, and with the exception of the cord used to tie down the canvas cover, it's all in precise scale. Everything opens, and that canvas top can be removed (which about everyone will do), the engine is fully wired with scale mesh in the air cleaner and separate metal clamps on the hoses. Inside, the seat and doors are upholstered in real leather. The bed and floorboard are real wood, as are the top bows, which can be unlatched and removed if you wish. Chassis detail-- well the handbrake lever moves the pushrods to the rear wheels, and every hose and wire seems to be there. Period photos show that the canvas top was in place enroute to races, but when the team won, the top would be removed and the sideboards lowered for a parade through the streets of Stuttgart. Any of CMC's pre-war racers can be loaded aboard and if you don't have one, shame on you! There's WAY too much to show here; Google CMC 1935 Mercedes transporter for more photos and details. What a project this must have been and what a beauty it is!

After further research

I found a number of very good photos of the original 1934-1939 photos and can say with great confidence that CMC's model is much more accurate in several areas than Mercedes' full-scale replica. Kudos to CMC for excellent research!
