It's Barney Oldfield (and an imposter) on the fastest car on land in 1904 with a speed of 91.4 mph that was only beaten by the most cutting edge locomotives at the time. Believe it or not, it was last driven by Dan Gurney:
This is undoubtedly the most fun model Exoto ever produced with its operational drivetrain and its incredibly intricate radiator.
One of my favorites that was a must have model for me; that working crank will always delight and the wheels are in a class by themselves! Nice video Rich - I hadn't seen that one.
Have the model which is a major part of American auto history. Your figure makes the model come alive Rich.
You haven't lived until you race an unreliable car with ZERO safe equipment or personal gear on a wooden track (Imagine the splinters) at 1 mile per minute!
@marty-johnson I like that the video ends with cigar chompin' Barney Oldfield.
@bob-jackman My only regret about the driver was that I was so into putting a driver in the car that it never dawned on me to sculpt a Barney Oldfield head on the figure complete with cigar. My driver actually looks like the late Christopher Reeve. LOL
@marty-johnson THAT was a cool video, thanks! 60mpg under THOSE conditions took guts! I know I wouldn't do it!
".....to sculpt a Barney Oldfield head on the figure complete with cigar."
Well, I'm quite sure YOU could easily add a cigar to "Christopher Reeve." However, one day I just might make my own Barney Oldfield driver - and I'll definitely add a cigar! 😏 But I'll first check the cottage-figure-industry. Thousands of 1/18 figures, historic & otherwise, as you know, are commercially available.
Why fab one if I don't have too? - But I have done it before, including a 1/6 Henry Ford to compliment my 1/6 Quadracycle. 😏 😏
