With the idea of minimal resistance, maximum downforce and a body no wider than the engine, this Ferrari F1-90 (641/2) shows the genius behind attempting to achieve these ultimate goals. the thin rounded nose tapers to the width of the cockpit while the wrap around stepped canard provides both downforce and deflecting the air over the front wheels. From the cockpit, it tapers back to the rear transaxle with the headers on the 680 HP V12 with its air box wrapped around the driver's headrest and roll bar. The undercarriage is designed for maximum engine cooling and within the body, there isn't one square inch of room not occupied by a myriad of components. Although 10 HP and a bit heavier than their McLaren- Honda V10 rivals, it still stacked up a slew of wins, places and pole positions. It's brilliant design so enthralled the New York Museum of Modern Art that one is actually hanging vertically on a wall.

This is Exoto's incredibly intricate model of Alan Proust's winning car:

I’d love to “pilot” one for about 30mins.

I remember little Richard Hammond behind the wheel of an F1 car on "Top Gear". He couldn't get the car off the line without stalling it.

- Driving an F1 car is extremely difficult to do. I remember watching a video about a "novice" trying to drive the car and how pressing the brake pedal required considerable strength.

BTW, I had two Rosso 1:8 scale kits of this model.  The first one I had was accidentally knocked off a shelf at my office.  I replaced it with another, started it, and never finished building the model.  The decals were really bad as they would dry out, crack, and chip.  Ultimately, I sold it on eBay.

The Exoto Williams FW14B is even more detailed and the AUTOart McLaren MP4/6 has incredible detail to it as well.
