Doug Nash Ford Bronco Buster Funny Car - Part 7
Now that the body dimensions are all set it was time to begin working on fabricating the chassis. For ease of construction, I considered fabricating the frame using plastic. However, after doing some tensile strength testing, and using a frame design that mirrors the 1:1, it would not be strong enough and would sag under the weight of diecast. So, I elected to use metal instead. It's more trouble, but much stronger.
As you can see in the photos, I've fashioned a tonneau for the pickup bed. The rough chassis photos follow. The 1:1 has a fuel injected 289 CID engine. I had this one left over from my Gas Ronda longnose Mustang so it will be perfect for this build. Now, it's on to creating a front tube axle and mounts for it and the differential.

Love the mock up pictures, looks like it's coming along well.
Wow, you're almost done. A few more hours and you'll be waxing this thing! Oh,I might be rushing it.
I must say, you did find a quick way to fasten that chassis together. I'd still be drilling holes.
Also, I've notice the BB wore a few different wheel combos.
Have you decided what you want? I think all of them are replicated in 1/18, including the front "bicycle rims" ...right?
Rushing it? Nah! LOL! Yes, the 12 spoke wheels used on the front are widely available.
GMP used them for their Fuel Altered images. I have a bunch of them in my inventory. It appears Doug Nash used either Halibrands or Cragars on the rear. I have both of those in inventory as well. I'm heavily leaning towards the Cragars but actually haven't decided yet.
If you can't buy it......Build it! Awesome work being done.
