exoto prices recently came across a maroon 67 corvette by exoto on ebay
for $75

then I looked at that same car on the exoto website
http://www.exoto.com/s/1/ProductDetails.aspx?Language=en&CategoryId=214&ProductId=1220
pictures looked the same and its $598
how is that possible ? what am I missing here ?
Note the ebay picture also says "MOTORBOX" - yet the ebay caption says "EXOTO" - how is MOTORBOX related to EXOTO ?

Motorbox was a name that Exoto came up with to market less detailed & less expensive diecast. That 1967 Corvette was originally priced at $49.95 from Exoto direct. Their prices have now, for the most part, reached levels that defy reason (IMHO).

Exoto prices..........
tend to be all over the place because Exoto tends to be all over the place with occasional sales - particularly of old stock - that are way below their listed retail. Indeed these deep discount sales on their web site was the reason why most, if not all, retailers stopped carrying Exoto. They got tired of Exoto selling cars for less than they had to pay for them wholesale.
As for 'Motorbox' it designates, or used to designate, models of more modest quality that Exoto retailed for less money then their standard and XS models. They even have a Motorbox Gold which is a step up, supposedly, from Motorbox.
The car you are looking at has been on sale numerous times on the Exoto web site for $75 dollars plus shipping . It seems that reality is being reflected in the secondary market.
You have to realize that a lot of Exoto's offerings are based on some very old molds. Newer offerings of these old models - like the Cobra Daytona Coupes - are being sold at crazily inflated prices given that the only difference between a model they issued in 2005 and one they issued in 2015 is livery.
The secondary market, these days, is the best indicator of what older Exoto models are really worth.

Exoto has many MANY issues. Simply put—stay clear. Otherwise, spend the rest of your life whining.

In 2010, Exoto held a sale and I purchased the 1967
Corvette coupe in Marlboro Red (aka Maroon) for $60. Prices later jumped to $150. Glad I got that one - beautiful model. Biggest beef is minimal engine detail and no carpet.
