Marlowe, seen your points, all valid, but there is a fun driving MODEL T than any new car.

You know we have shared many posts on some FB groups, but there, let me be very truthful, I didn't enjoy much. Although in those groups there are many global collectors and mostly young, but seriously IMO, they still don't understand this hobby. These Y2K kids are just purchasing models because it is just available, not because they know about the model and its history, no!! they just purchase because it looks good to their eyes, and some after sometime just exchange with another collector.

I was participating in almost all the forums in the world and in almost all FB groups, but after some time I started losing interest..

Although this site is old in terms of technology but here I do enjoy seeing senior collectors sharing their feelings behind every model purchase.

About buried posts, you even can't find your 6 months old post in any FB groups....

Last but not least, I do really enjoy posting in world's oldest Diecast Forum, however, the liking of models here is mostly American make of cars, but, that is ok, I do have enough US models to share here with seasoned collectors.... 🙂

Marty, absolutely 100 on point my friend...... you nailed all of it on the head. Between the change in collectors(younger) to the usability of this site you are 100% correct. Not sure if FB is the answer as even that seems off sometimes based on who starts the page and who they like and don't like.

Given, like you, I have been around for a long time I talk with people all the time that claim the same thing, its dying ! Then I see AA (to name one) releasing new molds of every euro supercar and import coming out and its clear how the hobby is not dying but growing in a different direct. Its just leaving the baby boomer guys in the dust now.

I hope this entire conversation stays posted as it needs to be said, for those life long collector guys and for the new collectors but mostly for those who run this group and thenm maybe trying to update this to something more current.

Glad to know that old guys like me are no longer essential to the hobby. I feel with over 6,000 models in my collection that I have played a role in making the hobby successful over the years. Incidentally I still receive an average of six new models each week even in my advanced age. I'm sure that your points are valid regarding technology but the bottom line is that the young folks you feel are the future of this hobby simply don't view 1/1 cars with the same enthusiasm as I did and therefore that carries over into their lack of interest in model cars. Specific to 1/18 scale, space is a problem for me as the only way I can add this to scale is to remove an existing model to make room for a new one. By contrast, the 1/43 scale is less space demanding and I must inform all that the scale is on fire with the number of releases and manufacturers than I can ever recall. We all see this hobby through different eyes and that is good. I'm certain those here that are higher tech than this old man will agree with the views expressed above but I don't think throwing the baby out with the bath water is a prudent thing to do. Facebook...no way.

Some upgrades could certainly help update this site, but one would have to be quite foolish to think Facebook's posting style and interface is anything but pathetic and poorly planned. They should stay FAR away from that ridiculous set up. I frankly have not noticed that conversations in those groups/formats is any improvement at all.

I see it in much the same way Mike. FB's format is far from simplistic.
