[Closed] FORUM "PIC ISSUE" ....When viewing archival pics, about half show up as an "X" This problem......

I believe the problem is not on your end and probably can NOT be fixed...

The problem is the result of the original poster deleting or moving the photo is his Photobucket or Flicker account, which therefore changes the link address. If someone rearranges or organizes his account it will change all of his previously posted links. It is unlikely that he could correct the problem without actually re-posting a new link.

Unfortunately, if the X is there, they're gone forever

I had checked into this last year. In my case, I hadn't saved the pics I'd uploaded, so I'm completely out of luck. When it's a Photobucket or Flickr issue, there will be a message in the empty space to that effect.

In my case, there is no "other" account (Photobucket, etc...) I upload from my 'puter using this....

Paul, what if it's not a Flickr, Photobucket, Snapfish, etc... issue? That is, pics never went ...

...to any other site prior to posting here. Pics were uploaded directly. Occasionally, I'll search the archives or go back just a few weeks and find that some pics from the same date do appear while others show as an "X."

Yet, all were uploaded exactly the same way.

I'm not sure but I think it may be a space issue

Our website may be limited as to how many images it can save. If you think about it, the room needed to save them can add up pretty quickly as there is a huge amount of photos posted every day. Most web site have a limit as to how much storage they can use. If the site runs out of room, images would be automatically deleted in some order that makes sense to the maintenance program being used. It's always best to have a back-up on your hard drive or in the cloud.

This has happened before....

the photos are uploaded direct without a hosting site, so the problem is here.
I believe some were restored. The IT guys were on it. I replaced many where possible.

George, from what I've read/learned.....you're exactly right. The pics should be "somewhere."

When you said "archival photos", were you referring to our Lists and Reviews archives, or forum postings?
It was our Lists and Reviews "archives" I was talking about.
We had a rash of disappearing photos there a couple of years ago. I don't know what the problem was but the IT guy restored a bunch and I supplemented where I could.

Rich, it's forum postings I'm refering to that do not go through a hosting site but are uploaded....

...directly using the "CLICK HERE" link. Most of my pics, as well as pics posted from others (not all) are now showing as an "X."

The odd part is that in some instances some of the pics do appear but others do not, yet, ALL were uploaded the same way (with "CLICK HERE").

Even pics that are "fresh" will show as an "X" within a few weeks.

As stated earlier, I have no problems viewing ANY pic, link, video, etc, etc....on any other sites.

FOR EXAMPLE, going back to Feb, 2014... Pics from me, Steve Jacobs & Paul Normand all appear as....

...an "X." While pics from Marlowe, Ron Merritt & Bob Weiner are, well, still pics.

I see your point Christopher. But still, we should keep in mind...

The forums are not meant to be archives. The maintenance and space they use are an operational expense. The site archives model reviews and photos for the reviews, but not necessarily the forum postings. I'm not sure we can reasonably expect them to be maintained and available in perpetuity.

John, your point is duly noted. My only question, really, is just why...........

.....this "X situation" appears to occur only to some contributors. That's not say I'm implying any prejudice, quite the contrary; I simply don't understand.

For instance, if I post a pic, just one small pic, today it will be an "X" in just a few weeks (or less). Yet, I can search this forum's archives, going back years, and view large, multiple pics without ever seeing an "X."

Is it something I'm doing?
