I was always fascinated by Funny Cars. When they first emerged in 1964, the innovation and wide variety of designs were ever-evolving, ever-changing. They began as gas powered, then to alcohol, nitromethane, and then rocket fuel. The configurations of the chassis and bodies were literally endless. The chassis were stock, modified, partially tube, and fully tube. The bodies were steel, chemically milled or acid dipped, partially fiberglass, and full fiberglass. They were front-engine, mid-engine, and twin-engine! Hardtops, roadsters, station wagons, trucks, jeeps, and fliptops. They were standard wheelbase, altered wheelbase, stretched wheelbase, shortened wheelbase and long-nose. They featured carburetors, fuel injection, turbochargers, and superchargers! The permutations were virtually endless. Every driver and every team was trying to design a configuration that would prove superior to the competition! It was a great era! These drivers were my heroes! The drivers had cool nicknames like The Farmer, Dandy, Dyno, "Gas," The Bear, Jungle, The Gentleman, The Honker, Cha-Cha, and the California Flash! I just loved it!
Love those altered wheelbase racers! Like you, I've loved them for a long time!
A truly one-of-kind collection that exists in only one place on earth. A remarkable 1/18 presentation of talent & dedication like no other. It's nice to see them all grouped together in this way (including those two 1/24 HW Mopars ). Tell me, is that Bronco gasser finished yet? 😏 😏
