As a budding gear head in 1962, solutions for getting more weight to the rear tires were kinda simple if not particularly effective. raising the nose did shift the center of gravity and mass rearward bolstered by those mysterious up-lock and down-lock shock absorbers. I thought looked really cool on the street. Although as the philosophy flipped, I thought it looked really cool when everyone started jacking up the rear which seemed to work better on acceleration. Arnie Beswick's '61 Catalina with the new 421 SD V8 has exactly the look. Soon after, he managed to wrangle one of the few first year Tempests stuffed with the same 421 built as a test bed by Pontiac with a unique transaxle. (note the 4 link rear suspension on the Catalina)

Yes! This is such a cool looking car. Thanks for the 1:1 pic. I don't recall ever seeing Arnie's actual '62 Pontiac. (..you said '61 by mistake ).Â
Great pics! I've always thought raising the front looked way better (cooler! ) than having the rear jacked up. 😎 😎Â
AÂ great-looking Pontiac/Beswick drag car, done in excellent 1/18 diecast form here ! I have Ertl's standard 1962 Pontiac and it's a fine issue by them.Â
