This 1956 Buick Centurian concept car defines the jet age 'futurism' of the time. It's a fully driveable vehicle powered by a 325 hp V8 with a push button selector automatic transmission. It has up to that tome the world's largest bubble top. Set in the trunk lid is a TV camera with a display screen on the dash. It probably wasn't functional as the technology at the time would meant a lot of large cables snaking through the car with hardly enough space behind the dash to accommodate them all. Of all the design cues, it was the horizontal tail fins that both Buick and Chevy incorporated into their 1959 production models. Of all the Motorama concepts, this Centurion is perhaps my most favorite. Model by Minichamps.

Thanks Rich. Wonderful pictures and writeup. I have the model in 1/43 scale because it was about this time that I had run out of room for anymore 1/18 scale.
Certainly an interesting concept car. Not practical on a sunny day, like most concepts but you can see influences on later production vehicles. I would buy it in 1/43 should I find it available. Love Bob, my space is now restricted due to volume. Thanks Rich.
this Centurion is perhaps my most favorite.
I'd bet that's true for most when they look at 1950's GMย concept cars. Also, the rare (for a concept car ) tu-tone paint never looked better, right?ย
My only real gripeย with this model is the same as everyone else's....
Why-oh-why did Minichampsย use silver paint instead of chrome on all that luscious front-end bright work?ย These concept replicas were hundreds of dollars each anyway...so it wasn't a cost costing move. ๐ค ๐ค ๐คจ ๐คจ ๐ย
What a sensational-looking dream car from GM/Buick and from Minichamps ! The colors really stand out and some of the innovations and design cues are excellent.ย ย
I love the design, especially the rear with horizontal fins and round thing in center, which looks like exhaust from jet engine.

Is there a write-up on the car?
Right?
If there is, I haven't found it yet; this pic is the only thing I've seen. ๐ ๐ย
@marty-johnson THANK YOU SIR!!ย It's nice to have connections, what a cool way to race...know what I mean?ย Oh wait, OF COURSE you do! ๐ ๐ ๐
@marty-johnsonย Thanx, Marty. That was an interesting read. It was amazingly well built just to survive that grueling race.
