The model in the photo is drop dead gorgeous, 'eh?!  It was the beauty of this photo that compelled me to buy it!  I thought it would be cool to display with my 1:24 Danbury Mint version I recently acquired.  However, after receiving the model, I had to send it back.  My 1:24 and 1:18 display idea was not to be.  That's because SunStar made the model look much better than it is in "the flesh."  The colors aren't nearly as vibrant, nor are they accurate too.  The coral color just looked like an unattractive orange.  In a RARE case of sending back a model, that's what I did.  It killed my desire to display along with the DM 1:24.

What a shame; the accurate colors are beautiful together on this car.

Well, I'm sorry for your loss.

However, I could've warned you.  At the time Sunstar released their 1957 "retract,"  it was an OK model with one pretty neat feature.  Sunstar's "Platinum"  1958 Ford, by comparison, blows that '57 off the map!  Their '57 was then "refreshed"  with flashy paint which may or may not be factory-accurate.  Just another reason why I used '58 Fords on my car hauler build despite having 1:1 reference pics featuring '57 "retracts."

- You have my condolences. 😔 😔

PS

I could've shot it up with the "50 Cal"  from my recent 1943 White M3A3 Halftrack mod/project! 😀

I have SunStar's 1957 Ford Skyliner in white over light green that I got many years ago. I am very happy with it and the retracting roof mechanism is quite the interesting feature. I have one of the Platinum Series 1958 convertible Ford's, too, and together they make a fine late Fifties full-size Ford pair. The 1959 Ford is a missing 1/18 model as the next one l have is Ertl's really nice 1960 Ford. So far, my '60 seems ok, but I understand many suffered from intergranular corrosion.

True, true...   but I viewed this action more like regression.  That is, I harkened back to my youth, recalling when particular models did quite turn out as planned.... we'd then stuff them with firecrackers, M-80s, etc... and blow 'em up! 😀 😆 😆 😀    "Ugly model?  Eyesore to look at?  Embarrassed with the finished product?.....NO problem!"  😆 😀

@mikedetorrice Yes, we need 1/18 1959 and 1961 Fords!  Curiously, it seems that it's mostly green Ertl 1960 Fords that have become affected with diecast-cancer,  while mostly the yellow versions have suffered from peeling white top paint.  😫 😣

@chris That's exactly the fate of many of the models I wish I could have back from my "terrible tween" days.

.........

My 1960 Ertl Ford Galaxie (ooops, I mean Starliner) is white with a black top and I think it may be a part of their old "American Graffitti" series. In any case, last time I checked it seemed to be ok.
