TheΒ 24 hours of Le MansΒ was the 6th Grand Prix of Endurance that took place at the Circuit de la Sarthe on 16 & 17 June 1928. This stripped-down 1928 Chrysler convertible was among other Chryslers that participated. All did fairly well, completed the race, but none won.
#8 was at the now defunct Walter P. Chrysler museum in Michigan, which I visited once.
I've had this 1/18 Signature forever, but it always saddened me that a regular-stockΒ version was never released.Β Signature was contracted to replicate this model exclusively for the museum and they didn't disappoint. Everything that can open, or move does. The model is heavy due to the diecast frame (nice touch! ) and the details are quite good.
It looks superb as a real Chrysler car and as a 1/18 Signature diecast replica !
I have been searching for decades for nice 1/43 scale American 1920s classics, but manufacturers don't seem to like these cars. Though I believe Franklin did quite a few 1/32s. Β This is stunningly beautiful and it's a great shame that a street version wasn't done I'm sure they'd have had no problem selling them. Incidentally, just in case there's somebody out there not aware, the little door behind the front seats is for a golf bag ποΈ
Interesting history of Chrysler at Le Mans, thanks.

Yes, that's exactly right and it's a bit of a choir to actually open it. I'll bet there are owners out there who do NOT realize that tiny door opens. π¬ π¬Β
Have it, love it. I believe there were 4 cars entered by Chrysler and either three or all four finished the race with two being in the top five. While the cars were modified,Β the modifications were slight including the front fenders being changed to get more air past the engine compartment and the knock off wheels. Ironically the cars still had the spare tire attached to the rear.
I saw that Dodge in a catalog, really liked it, but realized I had no place to display it. (That's been happening a lot these days)

and the knock off wheels.
HA! I didn't realize that... yes, those are knock-offs,Β aren't they? π€ π€Β
I don't think you own this particular 1/18 Minichamps Bentley, but I know you have one very similar ("top up" ).Β It's funny because this Bentley competed with my '28 Chrysler (and 4 others ) in that same 1928 Le Mans race.
I should have this 1/18 Bentley, but like you... real-estate is precious!Β π πΒ

Rich, if the real-estate you mention were in London or Paris, it would be 1/43s ! There was a great programme on UK TV a while ago, where hosts tried to find accommodation for 'difficult cases'. An unlikely star was born, when an old colonial gent' who had never cooked anything nor washed clothes nor dishes in his life, was forced by political exigences, to return to Blighty from Kenya. Β On seeing the accommodation offered him he said "you couldn't swing a rat by its balls in here".
