Well, Rand's original post asked for a logical explanation...
...for something that defies it.
John K, you're absolutely correct and a reminder that COST and PRICE are two completely different things.
Yes, the PRICE of shipping is (assuming you don't have enough scale to negotiate it) the same from any one point for the same carrier.
The total COST of the item, inclusive of shipping+handling, is based on many variables as John F points out - quite eloquently.
How individual PRICES are reflected that add up to the total COST then is pure marketing determined by the prerogative of the individual seller - as it always has been and should be in a free market. If you do not like the seller's lack of transparency regarding his COSTS, don't buy from them.
As Chris M. states we could probably go round and round on this topic to no specific conclusion and no entity is going to enforce standardized shipping costs...
I don't get it
Well guys, the " polemics" were interesting. .... BUT... Chris Moroni is no baloney !!!!..He says it like it is without the B.S. That's why REPLICARZ and AMERICAN EXCELLENCE do great business. A lot of sellers are " strokes".
Ha, thanks Rand. For the record though, I'm not always "baloney free." lol
* * * sparky ?? * * * Sorry Chris - You made me bust out in LOL !!

I've bought and sold hundreds of items on eBay going back to the mid '90s. I've sold tons of model cars, a few real cars, boats, musical instruments and various other items. Sellers have several options on how shipping will be calculated. The easiest way is to let eBay calculate it based on the from and to zip codes, and shipping company.
If I want to bid on a model and the shipping looks out of line, I'll contact the seller and ask why. Most of 'em don't have a clue.

Didn't the " Shandells " do a do-wop ( no offence to my Dago buddies
to the tune of " Phony ( or Pony) Morini " ???
...No. Tommy James and the Shondells had a hit with Mony Mony. Then there was....
..the 1958 Larry Williams hit Bony Maronie. At least that's what the history books say... I graduated from college in the late 80's.
Michael " Bony" Maroni

Well, I am in a band. I'm a lead singer, back up singer & a drummer. I fool around with a piano too.

I think you've probably already gotten an answer for this question, but here's my two cent's worth..
... I've sold a few things on eBay and every time I list something new, I go back and forth over the shipping options they provide. I'm basically a novice at selling, so I'm sure that explains a lot, but I find their options extremely confusing; I don't think I've ever chosen the same option twice and, of course, each time, the shipping is calculated differently. Some times I've broken even on shipping and other times I've lost at least a few dollars. I've never "made" money on the shipping, probably because I don't know how to do it correctly- LOL!
