for three reasons:
1.) I couldn't afford Exoto's 2600 parts count Jaguar Type D 'short nose', and...
2.) I think AUTOarts 'long nose' looks sexier, and...
3.) I got a Le Mans winner out of the deal! It does seem like a lot of collectors were willing to pay the freight as it appears all 26 iterations have sold out.
What is there to say about this AUTOart? It's a damned good model at 1/4 the price. Of course an in depth head-to-head comparison would reveal the higher parts count. Without that, you'd have to be a retired Jaguar engineer to know the difference. This model represents the #6 car 1955 Le Mans winner driven by J M Hawthorne and Ivor Bueb.
@franklemire It looks like the deck roundel is up too high? That's the only thing that pops out to me.
@rich-sufficool Looks like some added vertical white paint on the fin....
@chris I just realized the pic on the right is Frank's model and he painted the trailing edge of the vertical fin.
There is also the 'GB' to the left of the license plate - If you notice in the photo of the actual cars that the #7 car did not have the white stripe wrap around the back like the #6 did. I don't know if this was done on purpose or not. Nice pickup on the roundel Rich! I hadn't noticed that although I don't think I'm quite so exacting as to remove the existing tampo graphic and replace it with a decal. Also the actual car did not have the light for the plate or the latch. I didn't want to take those pieces off and leave holes.
@franklemire I was never good at "What's Wrong With This Picture?" as a little kid. I always missed one or two. I guesss I haven't got much better. LOL
Have it, love it despite the odd inaccuracies discussed. Exceptional images Rich and thanks to everyone else for their observations. I did read somewhere that the white on the fin was placed at the request of Mike Hawthorn.
@david-green As our resident Jaguar cognoscente, I appreciate your input, David.
