Do you suppose whom so ever produced this thing ever actually saw a 1964 Ford Galaxy?

Right!

I, along with many others, have wondered the same thing for MANY years. Sunstar "tooled"Β  up this mess about 20 years ago. When you consider all the obvious flaws, it's really quite shocking that this made it to production.Β Strangely, it continues to sell (that's all that matters, right? ) and Sunstar releases new-color versions periodically.Β

Equally strange, is that Sunstar is quite capable of producing really good 1/18 models, but this ain'tΒ  one of them. πŸ™„ πŸ™„ πŸ™„Β

The solution is always just get what you like and like what you get. First person observation of the diecast model is always best.

I have the 1/18 1964 Ford Galaxie and it is a nice SunStar model, yet I feel the passenger compartment is too far forward and I tried to show in this video shown below.

@mikedetorrice I hate to be negative but this is a terribly out of proportioned model.

The 1964 Ford Galaxy scat back and the Mercury Marauder are two of my all time favorite cars. The Sun Star model was such a disappointment.

Right! Several years ago, I "blew it out of the water."  Regarding things wrong, there's almost "too much to list."  As Rich noted, this '64 Ford was such a disappointment. I think my best '64 Ford models are in 1/64 scale but I sure would like one in 1/18. 😏

Once again, just get what you like and like what you get. I would think it is hardly a contest in which someone says "Well, I found 3 "mistakes" and YOU only found 1, so I win !" I actually have a 1964 (and two 1963) Ford Galaxies and I can actually see and measure the erroneous passenger compartment on the '64 Ford. The rest of the cars is nicely done and it may be lesser evident on the convertible, but the proportion problem can be directly seen on the diecast model.

I always hated the '64 for itsΒ  overly wide and plump styling. The 63s were nicely sculptured and then the 65s were so different, I mean they just changed the styling completely and for the better IMO.

Although if you gave me a choice between a 65 Caprice and 65 LTD I'd have quite a difficult choice deciding which one I'd prefer to have. I'd probably favor the Ford by just a few points due to its styling.

@100ford2003 Yes, Sunstar did a nice job with their '63 Galaxies and even a better on their '63 Falcons but "closed their eyes"Β  during development of that '64! πŸ˜’ 😫

I very much like all full-size Fords from the 1960's but have always thought that the "years got messed up."Β  Β To me, the '63s should've been '62s, and '62's should've been '63s.Β  Honestly, doesn't a '63 look more like a '61?Β  And doesn't a '62 look more a '64?Β  πŸ€” πŸ€” πŸ€” πŸ€” 🀨
