Okay, full disclosure and I guess confession. As we all know not all mail is welcome, and yes, that even goes for mail from the mints. But hey, it's rare when my heart wasn't put in to racing mode with a new model. But this one get's put in FILE 13. I'm sorry, but has a 1:18 scale diecast ever looked so bad in print? I didn't want to even think of how it may have looked in my hand or on my shelf.
And what's worse, it's one of the most loved of the Tri-Chevy's, the beautiful '56. This model however looks completely off-base from bumper to bumper. And the color, well I think that's a little off too. Nope, on this one I did not follow the bottom of the Flyer's directive...I didn't ACT NOW! Now I'm guessing that their might be some fellow collectors that might have ordered this one, and if you did, weigh in, tell me how the car is. I mean hey, I could be wrong, as you know "they" say that "a book should never be judged by its cover", maybe that was true for this model and it's a winner. Anybody?
My guess is that this is a re-release from very old Yat Ming tooling. I have the original Yat Ming 1956 Chevrolet convertible, George and I like it. It is an ancient 1/18 model and may date from even the early 1990's ........ so perhaps 30 years ago. No, it is certainly not detailed but mine is solidly and reliably put together in a cool color combo and it was $ 19.95 or so and with very few of the great 1956 Chevys available in 1/18 I am happy to have it.
The other 1956 Chevrolet done in 1/18 is the spectacular and detailed Precision Miniatures '56 Bel Air 4-door hardtop. I have one and it is magnificent. Far more detailed and far more expensive than the YM but definitely worth it ....... and I got mine at an amazing close-out price. I also really like this '56 Chevy replica, too ! (and I like '56 Chevrolets in general ...... it was great-looking car.)
Thank you for your great photos and input on the model. Certainly your pics look better than the one that is on the Flyer. I like your "4-door Hardtop" version. It would have been nice if the Mints would have given us more 4-door cars than they did.
But on that '56 Hardtop, the Continental Kit would have to be removed. I've come to the personal conclusion that if Continental Kits had to be on cars, they should have ONLY been on Convertibles. And then, not even all Convertibles look good with them. However, my opinion aside, it's up to individual preference of course.
That 4-dr. HT is from Precision Miniatures. It's an excellent model, imo. I have the version without the continental kit or skirts. I luv the Laurel Green/Crocus Yellow combo.
