@jkuvakas I've had my share of underpowered cars over the decades and I don't have fond memories of any of them. Things I remember:
1.) a 6 cylinder 2 speed Powerglide trying to daily enter Route 22 with a minimal entry ramp. There was an absolute drop from low to high with semis baring down on me.
2.) Trying to go up a grade in the rain with vacuum powered wipers.
3.) Going up a grade in a hot summer's day having to turn the AC off to make it.
3.) Having some idiot in front of me and not having the power to safely pass him.
Basically, I find nothing nostalgic about them. The worst of the bunch: the VW Microbus!
@rich-sufficool Rich;Â In my experience almost every time I am stuck in a long, unnecessarily slow procession of cars on a windy single lane roadway (especially in winter conditions) there is a completely oblivious person driving a Volvo station wagon leading the procession.
I remember getting one but returning it for some reason. Didn't it come in kind of a clear blister pack instead of in a box ?
Thanks Chris ! Sometimes the old noggin's still workin.
In 1966 a coworker bought a new VW which he would take back to the dealer for routine maintenance. Another coworker grew tired of the guy bragging about his VW and what a wonderful car it was. The second coworker, knowing that the first knew nothing about cars, decided to play a trick the next time the guy took his car in for service. He called the guy and disguised his voice and said he was the service manager and asked if he was aware of the coolant leak on his garage floor? Of course the guy said no and asked what was needed to fix the problem to which the reply was a new radiator and that it would cost $200 plus. The owner was very upset because the car was no longer under warrantee but he reluctantly said okay. When the rest of the office learned about the leaking radiator from the owner's constant complaining, the bragging about the car stopped.
the first knew nothing about cars,
I'd say I'm shocked that a VW owner didn't know there was no radiator, but (..and I hate to admit this ) I knew a guy who couldn't tell me if his new Seville was FWD or RWD. I had to show him.
Now it's my turn I suppose; I can't identify everything anymore when I pop the hood of a modern car. "What's that?" "What is this for?" 🙄 🙄Â
@chris - Ha! I remember when I bought my Toyota Supra in 1984, the salesperson tried to convince me it was FWD.
