The wildly successful McLaren M16 debuted in 1971. Squeezing an amazing 700hp from the supercharged 159 cid straight 4 Offenhauser engine, this flat-bottomed designed car was virtually a dedicated Indy racer that was tweaked every year for Indy ending in 1976 as this turbocharged M16E Indy winner. Johnny Rutherford joined the McLaren team in 1973 and won two Indys during his tenure including the last team sponsored M16 in '76. After McLaren replaced the M16 with the M24, the remaining M16s were raced by privateers with some successes until 1981. It's a bit murky whether this particular chassis survives to this day.
Model by Replicarz. Bill Bennett, who is infinitely more knowledgeable of Indy history than I, twisted my arm to by this model when we were at the 2008 Indy 500 from one of the zillion vendors there. I couldn't fathom why until I researched the car later and then bowed to his expertise.

An excellent and quite detailed Replicarz model. A real eye-catcher in yellow !
Rich, I'm thinking between you and Bill Bennett, there isn't much that isn't known about race cars.
It certainly looks like a nicely replicated model and clearly has a '70's vibe, other than that.... all I can add is that it's a "race car!"ย ย Currently, I own a turbo-charged 4 cylinder eking out almost 300hp; I was shocked to read they managed 700hp, from a "4"ย in 1971. That's extremely impressive! ๐ ๐ย

So, what the heck are you piloting these days ?ย
ย
@100ford2003 ATS coupe. I ordered one from Cadillac before they stopped making 2-doors, but I don't "pilot it"ย at all, it just sits in storage. ๐

Aww, come on now Chris....ya gotta put some #'s on its odometer.
@100ford2003 ... I drove it for a few months, on dry sunny days, with low pollen count, zero humidity, early in the morning, before traffic & congestion. I may take it out again...next year sometime...maybe.ย ๐คจ ๐ค ๐คจ

LMAO, how many miles have you racked up and do you kiss it goodnight and tuck it in for a good sleep every night...
Ok, ok, jus kiddin....
I'm so 'anal' about my truck that I still have my cigarette lighter powered vacuum cleaner that I bought in the mid '70s ... And YES, it still works !!ย
I get laughed at a lot but IDC ๐

I've been laughed at my entire life for how I baby some cars...even when they're junk!ย ๐ ๐ย
@100ford2003 2.0 liter turbo 4s are taking over the world. They're everywhere.
