That gray-green is a perfect period color.
I challenge you to do just that to prove, once again, how talented you are ..
If I want to, I can cut-open & hinge anything.... but the model has to be worth it (because I'm so lazy! ) π π πΒ Thanks for the compliments, but YouTubeΒ is filled with modelers who leave me in the dust! Honest!
Your 'cutting touch' or is it 'cutting torch' made that Mercury model 101% better !
I like the 1/18 model, so the reported scale length doesn't bother me. Many years ago, someone on the old DCP indicated that a diecast was didn't measure up, but he was dealing only with reported published length and/or wheelbase. And in at least one case a car was actually slightly longer (apparently) than 1/18th of the published wheelbase. The width and other measurements was not dealt with although they certainly could enter into it. Also, many didn't actually have the car or replica to measure so they are dealing with figures from some place.Β
No car is 1/18 (or1/24 or1/43) the weight, so that could be alleged I would guess, too, .........as could be the fact that most diecasts I suppose look like they are sitting on tires inflated to 375 lbs per sq in. Attempts to deal with this last case may have lead to other problems.
The bottom line ? If you like it, get it if you can. If not, move on tho something you do like.Β
I like the gray/green. I have the model in beige and have always liked it.

It looks great in this and a couple other colors they did, too. The woodie look is really excellent !
@mikedetorrice Motor City ClassicsΒ also made matching woody trailers (that open ) for these '39 Chevys. I bought one for the wheels, but that project got shelved... so I still have it, untouched. πΒ
It looks terrific and would make fora great display !
