LOL, we were in Hobby Lobby today and I bought a 1/18 scale shell gas pump and we also saw a 1/18 scale Union 76 gas pump and on the front of the Union 76 gas pump was the words "NO GAS". Yes you can buy this gas pump.

This is great!  I collect 1/18 gas pumps.... I'll have to see if this is a new design or just a repaint, but the "No Gas"  graffiti is very appropriate for 1976!

Oh, this has NOTHING to do with Biden, Gerald R. Ford was the President in 1976. Do you remember "WIN"  buttons?

I was just a kid, but I remember them -AND- those ubiquitous small orange "76 balls"   atop countless car antennas! 😀 😀

Forty six years ago, President Jimmy Carter delivered his Address to the Nation on National Energy Policy, better known as the “Moral Equivalent of War” speech. Seated behind his ornate desk in the Oval Office and wearing a sober pinstriped suit, he offered a litany of dark predictions:

  • “The oil and natural gas we rely on for 75 percent of our energy are running out.”
  • “Unless profound changes are made to lower oil consumption, we now believe that early in the 1980s the world will be demanding more oil than it can produce.”
  • “World oil production can probably keep going up for another six or eight years. But some time in the 1980s it can’t go up much more. Demand will overtake production. We have no choice about that.”
  • “We can’t substantially increase our domestic production…”
  • “Within ten years we would not be able to import enough oil—from any country, at any acceptable price.”
  • “If we fail to act soon, we will face an economic, social and political crisis that will threaten our free institutions.”

Jimmy Carter was wrong on every count, the world has more oil today and they continue to find new reserves of oil, the Middle East just recently found one of the worlds biggest reserves. America has some of the worlds biggest reserves of oil in the world.

However back to today if Biden has his way America will be forced into electric vehicles with an electrical infrastructure that will not be able to handle the loads placed upon it by all the electric vehicles trying to charge. Already in California they beg electric vehicle owners not to charge their electric vehicles during certain times because the electrical grid there can't handle the load and currently electric vehicles are just a small percentage of vehicles on the roads. Gavin Newsome has already put a hard date to ban the sale of new petrol powered vehicles and that date is just around the corner, Biden is following the same dates to try and ban petrol powered new vehicles.

Europe is starting to reverse their big push to go green because they are finding out it does not work. Just making electric vehicle batteries causes more pollution than a petrol powered vehicle. It takes over a decade of driving the petrol powered vehicle just to make the same amount of pollution just making the battery for an electric vehicle and that does not count all the pollution the electric vehicle will cause through out its life.

God forbid you have to replace the battery in an electric vehicle, you are looking at between $20,000 dollars to $30,000 dollars for a replacement battery. The old battery, goes to a dump so all the toxic metals it took to make it can contaminate the ground, there is nothing green about electric vehicles, I won't even get into the slave trade and child labor they use to mine the metals it takes to make electric vehicle batteries.

@john3976 Woah.... wrong forum for all that.

But as I've noted before, ELECTRIC vehicles are here and they're here to stay.... like it or not.  Regardless your arguments/politics/ecology bias, etc., it's all moot. BEVs are the future. There's a certain percentage of the public/generation that will NEVER buy a BEV, but that's OK, that's not the demographic OEMs target.

What will your kids or grandkids buy?

ALL EV 2
ALL EV 4
Tesla 9
Tesla 1
XC40 4
XC40 6
XC40 13

Very good points, john3976 ! It is a hoot to look at some of the dark (and wrong) "predictions" from those times.

@chris - I don't know 'bout the grandkids, but we're going to replace my wife's car with an EV.  I'm having my electrical panel replaced with a more robust 50 amp unit.

Right! (...there's exceptions to every rule ) That's the way to do it. Funny, but we've been entertaining the same idea. My wife's next car might be an EV.

Gents, let's keep the political commentary for other platforms. Time to move on.
