The "Marauder" badge could be applied to Mercury's 3 different models with the addition of the Galaxy fastback 'greenhouse'. It began in 1963 with the S55 package that could come with two versions of the 427 solid lifter V8 AKA "super Marauder". I thought it was kinda cool but I never like the nose that was a carry-over of the '61-'62 models. When they redid the nose in 1964, my love became an obsession. These Marauders were tearing up NASCAR and even won Pike's Peak. I dreamed of owning a Super Marauder in the luxe 'Park Lane' trim package. I almost bought one used in 1967, but because I bought my first car with cash, I needed my old man to cosign on a loan and he refused for some mysterious reason. I never got that car out of my mind. I found two AMT 1/25 "3 in 1" models and had that project on the list. Signature then released a '64 Park Lane diecast in 1/18 so I jumped on it hoping that it would be fairly decent for its low end pricepoint... and it wasn't too bad! I already had brochures for research so I went to work. I blackwashed the grills, side trim and hub caps, used BMF and metal tape for wheel well trim, door sills, lock escutcheons and anything else that needed chroming. I paint detailed a lot of little stuff including the hub cap centers and engine bay. I wasn't crazy about the white paint. I would have preferred any of their metallics, but at least I got the image I wanted.

You did a beautiful job, it looks great. I have one of these in red w/a white top.Â

This is a really attractive body style. I hope that Goldvarg will do it in 1:43 in the future.
Nicely done! I can hear Charles Phoenix talking about the car now...
"Brand new for 1964, it's the Mercury Parklane Marauder. Look at that sweeping chrome along the fenders, doors, and quarter panels. I know, right? I know!"
Rich, I always admired your added, factory correct, detail on this "low end beauty." I had 1:1 1966 Parlane convertible (410 V8)... so, I can relate your "Merc mind."
Last point: It never seems to get mentioned but I give Signature extra credit for simulating these factory "textured tops."Â This model has it, but it gets "lost in the sauce" because it's white.
Most people don't realize this 1/18 hardtop's roof is supposed to mimic a convertible "up top" both in appearance (including the stamped horizontal bow) and texture..... just like the 1:1. 😎Â
There's a lot of loving hours invested in that great looking model !
@chris As much as I obsessed over that Marauder and just loved that roof line on it as well as the Galaxy, I never noticed the subtle simulation of a rag top. I noticed it on the model and wasn't sure if it was right or not. All I know if if it was a poorly replicated soft top, it wouldn't be badged a Marauder.
Excellent detailing Rich on a model I have always liked.
Fine images of a terrific car ...... both model and 1:1 ! I have the white version, as yours here, and, like John, I also have the red/white top edition from Yat Ming. They are wonderful models and were available at an excellent, very affordable price.
Very nice work Rich. I always like the early '60 Mercury's and have felt they were lost in the shuffle of nice looking cars. From 1960 to 1964, all were nice to look at.Â
