"We don't sell many at these prices. But, then again, we only need to sell one!"

John, those Exotos & CMCs could conceivably command high prices; they have sold for hundreds & thousands (as you know). That makes sense.
This seller (who has every right to list "ridiculously") has a "$120 model" (at best) for $2,500.00ย ย ย Again, as a seller, he can ask any price but apparently, he's getting it. Unless his 100% positive feedback score and auction numbers are bogus, he's finding customers, even if it's at 1%, he's closing deals on ludicrous pricing.ย This seller has been around for a while now.
More power to him, right?ย Perhaps I should try it, right?ย ย "There's a sucker born every minute!"ย Right? ๐ ๐ ๐ค ๐คจย
"We don't sell many at these prices. But, then again, we only need to sell one!"
John, that's exactly right.
Frank, that's gorgeous.ย I must confess, however, I know little about the actual car nor of the history behind it. But you raise a valid point: How much are a one-of-a-kind models worth? Of course, the generic answer is, "It's worth what anyone is willing to pay."ย ย
Traditionally, not everyone will value "customs"ย as much as something that actually existed (historically accurate ).
Along with many others on this Forum, I too have dozens of one-of-a-kind (hand fabricated) models along with countless others that were improved with features/detail. With luck, some might end up in museums; without luck....seagulls will crap on them at landfills. ๐ ๐ย
@chris This car is an accurate (or as close to accurate as I could get) model of the actual car that won the 12 Hours of Sebring in 1965. It was Chaparral's first victory in international competition. I had to take an Exoto down to bare metal
and then add fender flares front and rear, add a second set of lights, modify the rear and and do a few other things before repainting it and adding the livery. No Chaparral collection is really complete without this landmark race car. I guess the real question might be to ponder how many collectors are left that even care about Chaparral race cars.
