Need help in choosing my next 1:18

With DM, FM, and WCPD out of the 1:24 diecast businees, I have been buying 1:18s; all so far from the Sun Star Platinum series. They have many nice models for the era that I like -- 50s to early/mid 60s. I'm considering the following models from Sun Star: 1958 Buick Limited Riviera Coupe; 1958 Lincoln Continental Mark III Hardtop; 1960 PLYMOUTH FURY HARD TOP; and finally the American Excellence 1957 Imperial Crown Southampton 4-Door, black / metallic grey, Limited Edition. For those who own any of these, your thoughts (pros/cons)? Thanks for the help.

Well Joe, here's my 2 cents..........

1) The 1957 Imperial, being resin, is in scale and looks great but there's no finger fun, nothing to open, no wheels to pose and some of that window trim could use BMF to increase accuracy. Overall, though, it's very nice and displays great.

2) My choice would be the 1960 Plymouth hardtop (if you can deal with the higher than spec. driver's seat...which is a minor concern) or the 1958 Buick hardtop. The Buick is very nicely done with TONS of detail and practically zero to complain about.

3) Lastly I would NOT recommend Sun Star's 1958 Lincoln. Yes, it's in scale (it's big) has some really nice (if not scale) features but the "too short" or squashed windshield is a real turn off. It's simply too low, add to this the puny wheel covers and combined they almost RUIN this otherwise very nice model.

Plymouth or Buick, can't go wrong either way. Note: if your Plymouth has chrome skirts you can easily remove them if you desire.

Thanks Chris...

I wasn't too sure about the 1958 Buick because it's tough to tell by the pics. Nice to hear from someone who owns one. All that chrome-- gotta love it! Appreciate your input.

You're welcome. I might add.....

...If you choose the Buick, stay with the hardtop or even the "top-up" convertible. The "top down" convertible is completely wrong.

There's NO interior side coves for the top frame, thus, the boot covers "nothing." It's just a boot placed on the rear package shelf...as if someone cut off the top to make a convertible. Stupid on Sun Star's part.

Thanks again.

I almost always prefer hard tops.

Yep, get all of them ! I have several versions of each of the SunStar models (and I would love to get the AE Imperial) and each one is great fun to look at, display or photograph.
