One of my all-time favorite cars is the Ferrari GTB/4 ‘Daytona’. Kyosho made a very good model and not very expensive model of numerous racing versions of this car.
One of the early ones which I happy bought at a model show (remember those?) in 2004 was this model of a car that raced in 1977 at Daytona.
Kyosho reissued an updated and more accurate model of the car in 2015 which I promptly bought.
The issue became then was what to do with the older car. I could have sold it but I decided instead to look through Ferrari race photos to see if I could find another North American Racing Team race car in red with the blue and white stripes that I could convert the old #64 into.
What I found was a car that raced at Watkins Glen in 1972.
This worked out well because I needed a car that did not have the little front fender fins. I needed the fins for another project.
Ferrari fans with a good eye will point out the errors on this model but I’m pretty happy with it.
Impressive work and you now have a very nice one off in your collection. I too hate parting with earlier purchases once I get a more accurate and recent edition.
@gavin They really went the extra mile with the different fuel inlets, the rear fender wheel openings, the front air dams and the fins on the front fenders. Most manufacturers, including the top end guys just pick out the most common iteration and just change the paint and livery. To make my pair of Scuderia Filipinetti cars I needed two different Kyosho models as base cars
It looks great and you are very happy with it .......that's what counts ! A excellent looking Ferrari (aren't they all) and you have this unique one in your collection.
@mikedetorrice Having 'one offs' is a lot of fun for me and it is a lot easier to do with race cars than it is to make a hard top into a convertible or some of the other custom builds done here. The key for me is not caring about reducing the resale value of the model.
@rich-sufficool Post away Rich! I for one never get tired of this car and the great job Kyosho did making this model
They are nearly all one of a kinds, so it is a pretty unique collection.
@mikedetorrice I've got 336 models at the moment 206 of them have been modified in some way. In most cases it is either to make them more accurate or to get a model of a car that I personally considered significant. They might not be as valuable if I tried to sell them but I really don't care. They make me smile.
They make you happy and that's what counts !
