Remember "Traction Master" ladder bars? They were a must briefly in the mid-sixties to prevent 'wheel hop' from the torque during launch. Surprisingly, I think this is the only drag car model I have with them. Ladder bars have made a comeback with off road SUVs. This is a really old model by Sun Star (crude by later standards). This first numbered run (probably 1000) has black steel front wheels; the latter runs (up to 10K) had mags.

Always loved this fist-run,  with its steelies & whitewalls-very nicely done BTW!   Great pics AND applied weathering highlights Rich; you make this Sunstar  look even better! 😎 😎      ....and 'tis season, as I notice Christmas merchandise already in stores, HO HO HO!  😳 😳

In the early '70s, these yellow models were quite popular, and a common sight on Woodward Ave drag muscle cars!  I don't remember the name of the manufacturer, though.  They only worked with leaf springs and the street cars that didn't have them would use airbags instead to control wheelhop.

Those are Lakewood Traction Bars. Here are three versions of them. The yellow ones are a universal set the other two are for GM cars.

@marty-johnson These are the type I remember the most.

Those yellow ones I'd seen on street racers.

The only car I ever owned that had traction bars was my 1929 Model A Roadster High Boy which I built using a Brookville metal body and I built the traction bars myself.

@marty-johnson I defiantly remember seeing those under the "cool kid's cars" ..... even the novice could easily attach them AND they made any car look formidable.  😎 😎
