This is a 1953 Buick Skylark as done superbly in 1/18 budget-priced form by MotorMax many years ago. Several colors were done and this is one finished in a sky blue color. Buick has made many beautiful and powerful automobiles and this convertible Skylark is among their best.
Yepper-pepper, MotorMax only made a handful of really good 1/18 replicas (can't beat the price!) and THIS is one of them. Arguably, their best!
You are 101% absolutely correct on that comment.
I love this Buick model.

And the '57 !
This is a lovely model of a great car; especially attractive without the continental kit.
This does look like a nice model. Not sure why I never got one, must have been the 4 I have in 1:24 that kept me away.

I think it may have been $24.95 when I got it new years ago ....... that makes a nice model like this one even nicer !

You're welcome, Maag !
It'd be interesting to me to find out the behind the scenes stories as to who and how that '53 Skylark got the green-light while some other models were so mediocre.

Steve,
We can only speculate as to why some replicas are FAR BETTER than others despite their origins and like circumstances. I laughed when you noted, "....so mediocre." IMO, Motormax's worst 1/18 "attempt" (in every sense of the word) is their 1967 Chevrolet Chevelle 2-door hardtop. To call it "mediocre" would be high praise!
Take a minute and carefully look at these pics (if you can stomach it). Note that "crazy-body-shape," poorly designed & fitted trim, lack of quality control (see that radiator hose?). How about that "telescoping" steering wheel?
Just how AND WHY was this "hot mess" approved, tooled up, manufactured and sold? It surely must generate profits but PLEASE call it a metal toy car, not a diecast collectible.
