Beautiful cars! And once again, you worked your usual magic with them in your photos Mike!!
Thank you, Tony ! The Roadmaster, (and I think all the cars from 1957) are such beautiful machines and everyone hit an automotive home-run that year in my view. They all practically photographs themselves.
@jack-dodds Burnished copper over creme is a great combination, though Buick probably came up with much more colorful names for their paints.
@gdh This car is done in what the GM color chart says is Garnet Red and Dover White (pic 1), but I do recall seeing many with the secondary color Antique Ivory (pic 2).
@jack-dodds These are great colors; I've always loved them.
Mike makes that MM '57 Buick look much nicer than it really is.... I always thought it could be improved considerably with the help of a 1/18 HW61 1957 Oldsmobile. Much like I'm doing on my '58 Pontiac project - splicing in in a roof - why not do the same here?
- One day, I just might take the top from a HW61 '57 Olds and add it to a MM '57 Buick convertible. Then repaint it in these colors! Why not, right? 😏 😏 😏
@chris Sounds like a good plan Chris! As a side note...don't you just love that Caballero wagon?!
@chris The Roadmaster hardtop for 1957 did not have a three piece back window, only the Special and Century.
@bob-jackman Correct, but the 1/18 MM '57 Buick could still be used - I can modify anything. 😉
@bob-jackman I have often wondered why GM changed that awesome rear window design on the Roadmaster as I prefer it; although both designs are beautiful.
The '57 Buick is an awesome car, and it is my favorite Buick. The MM Buick model is really a hot mess (my opinion of course) The proportions are way off.
Mike's photos are excellent and do make the model seem far more reasonable in appearance. I got one of the models years ago with the intention of getting one in every color. That never happened. One was enough. Fortunately, Conquest made an exceptional model in 1/43 (I have 12 of those) NEO also makes a decent 1:43 model in hardtop and convertible format (although they are under-scaled)

"The MM Buick model is really a hot mess..."
Yes, you are quite correct John; it's basically a POS. As I noted, Mike made it look MUCH better than it really is. If (IF! ) I ever do this "roof project" I was thinking more of grafting in MM's body panels to HW61's roof & doors. As opposed to what I'm doing with my current "1958 Pontiac project" whereas I simply grafted in a the top.
I didn't "make" it look "better" than it really is. I simply photographed it the way it actually is against some nice backdrops or posed it against _backgrounds_ constructed mostly in the computer.
The reason it may look good is because it is a very inexpensive model but quite well-done, especially at it's retail price. I eagerly await the new exceptionally "high-detail" 1/18 diecast model due in June, 2038.
