...better tooling than Yat-Ming's '59 so I bought one many years ago with a project in mind, but I eventually sold it. I can't remember exactly why now. 🤔 🤔Â
It looks good here!Â
In 1/18, like Chris, I also have Yat Ming's regular stock 1959 Chevrolet Impala as a top-up convertible in blue. It is an early release from YM and also done in top-down form. As Dinah Shore sang : "It's all new, all over again !" I just need a 1/43 one in Pepto-Bismol pink and green and I am all set !
The mild custom panel version looks excellent. I didn't know Mattel Hot Wheels did this 1/18 panel version and it's very cool. You can't beat that price, either !
@grockwood I had this and was going to use it to improve Yat-ming's '59 (which has some oddly shaped rockers & quarter panels ) but abandoned the project when the HW specs didn't measure up either--well, at least that's what I remember.
As is though, the HW '59s are better looking than the YM '59s.
Hard to believe, but there are still NO quality triple-nickel '55-'57 & '59 1/18 diecast Chevrolets 2-dr hardtops, not even in resin! Crazy! 😯 😯Â
I enjoy both my Hot Wheels 1/18 El Camino and my 1/18 Yat Ming Impala and I realize the perfect model car in any scale will never be built. Since it is supposed to be a relaxing and positive hobby, I think of the old saying, "Get what you like, and like what you get." It's a good general idea and mantra to go by !

...yes, a good idea & mantra to go buy! 🙂Â
I bought the panel around 2005 at Walmart.  They had about 6 different models at that price, a 57 Thunderbird pro street, a 55 Belair pro street, 65 impala, CJ7 JEEP, and 2 others I can't recall.   I had thought the HWY61 57 was a hard top, but it is a sedan.
That's pretty good selection to come across at Wal-Mart. I believe they may have also had the "Motorwerks" brand of diecasts, which I think was a WM-featured "exclusive" series of models. I know I got several of my diecast cars at Wal-Mart or Target.
