These are some beautifully-done and detailed first generation '64 Buick Rivieras in 1/18 scale by Highway 61. I am delighted to have two in very close exterior colors. The first I got from an excellent dealer who instantly offered to replace my diecast model when it was damaged by the shipping company. But I told him that I thought I could repair the damaged areas and after some work it looks very good. I also later got one in a close color and that one arrived perfectly. Both are shades of an orange-red but with differences between the two.
Excellent study of form and styling of one of automotive's icons. In red, it is outstanding. Your photos illuminate the subject perfectly!
"Excellent study of form and styling...."
Quite true, especially when one considers that just a few years earlier THIS was Buick's design language. In '64, Rivieras conveyed a modern, futuristic dream-car look, which of course, still holds up very nicely today.
Cool pics!
These pics also serve to again show that for some inexplicable reason the hood-to-fender gap is more pronounced on HW61's silver releasees..... 🤔 🤔 🤨
I started to say I like the second picture, but really, they are all great.
Speaking of which, what is the building in picture 2, Mike? I'm guessing it's in Riverside.I started to say I like the second picture, but really, they are all great.
Love it, Mike! I'm sure I must have seen it from the train back in the day.
Yes, for sure ! The building is right next to the Burlington - Quincy triple-track mainline out of Chicago, 12 miles back east towards Lake Michigan.
I would agree on the quality of the H61 1964 Riveras. Several years ago, over a period of a few years, I believe I located and purchased every one of these they made.
Here they are, plus a 1963 in powder blue distributed by Fairfield Mint using H61 design/molds.
Those Buick Riviera replicas all look great ! I am really happy with my two orange or orange/red 1/18 examples.
@chevelle1967 Yes, I would agree - you got 'em all! 😉 It's a beautiful collection of Rivs! I know ACAME did a couple of custom versions (loud colors, different wheels ) plus these three stock liveries.
I had the H61 in Silver with the spinoff hubcaps when i was also collecting 1/18 scale. This was a really nice model. I owned a 1964 with the Super Wildcat engine for a few years as a third owner. Those Buick Riviera replicas all look great ! I am really happy with my two orange or orange/red 1/18 examples.
I remember the hubcaps very well because they were cast aluminum discs bolted to the steel wheels with the removable spinners to access the lug nuts. They were very expensive as an option and only available for 1963 - 64.
"They were very expensive as an option and only available for 1963 - 64."
They sound expensive! 😮 😮 😮 😲
