Yep, like this one - a nice solid Ertl casting that looks pretty good. Of course, I had to open that sealed trunk - haven't yet got around to finishing up that trunk interior, though. It's only been about 10 years! 😬 😬 😬
Cool Everyman's car and great photos fellas!
Thanks ! You certainly seemed to see these vehicles everywhere back then. One could see the USA in your Chevrolet.......
I like the Plain Jane look of this one.
@chris Great job Chris. I wouldn't be in a hurry to finish it.
Nice set of photos Mike. I like the second to the last mountain photo best. At first, I was disappointed Ertl didn't do the Impala instead of the Biscayne. After I bought a couple, It grew on me. Chris your opening trunks amazes me. I tried cutting the continental wheel of a 55 Ford and barely succeeded after 4 broken blades.

1) Yes, the plane-Jane look of the Biscayne has a certain charm; Mike clearly points that's out.
2) One day, I'll make a 4-door sedan out of one - as the roof & C-pillar are identical to the 2-dr sedan. (Just like when I converted an Edsel into a 4-door )
3) Broken Dremel wheels are almost always caused by aggressive force - let the wheel do ALL the work. 😉 😉
4) Yes, I too removed the Continental kit AND the skirts from my '55 Ford....but it's been sitting in an "unrestored state" for 15 + years! 🙄 😯
5) Thanks for the "trunk compliments." I currently have TWO projects going: A 1941 Chevy (posted in the Handicrafts ) and my '64 Chevy (just started ).
6) I MUST note that with regard to Ertl's Biscayne, I did NOT have to cut the trunk out - that is, Ertl offers some of these with opening trunks, but SEALS SHUT trunks on lesser versions (like mine & Mike's ). I simply "unsealed the trunk" (cut away rivets and bracing ) then fabricated some hinges, etc.... So, that was a relatively EZ mod!
7) Occasionally, I run across "opening panels" (hoods. doors, or trunks ) that the factory "sealed shut." I ALWAYS "unseal them!" For instance, on my 1/18 wrecker - the hood is a separate piece, but it's "sealed shut." I haven't yet gotten around to "unsealing it," but I will VERY soon.
WOW-wee! That was a lot to unpack, but here's pics of everything I just talked about: 😉 😊 😀
Love seeing your various projects Chris. You da man.
Ertl did a fine job with this standard-level Biscayne and later Ertl Authentics did a top-shelf and quite detailed effort with their diecast replica big Chevrolet from this same general era of full-size automobiles.
