(PIcs) 1966 Dodge Charger

Both Ertl Authentics and Yat Ming did excellent 1/18 versions of the classic first generation 1966 Dodge Charger. Here it is in three colors from two manufacturers : yellow from Ertl Authentics and silver and red ones from Yat Ming. That great car 1:1 has been around in several terrific versions for a lot of years. Many times over the decades one could say, "Yeah, it's got a Hemi."

Terrific pictures Mike. I have always loved the interior of these cars with its full length console that extended into the back.

This car created quite a sensation when it was introduced.  I thought it was beautiful, both outside and inside.  The father of a teenager I knew back then bought a new metallic lilac colored one with the 383 engine and I got the occasional ride in it.  I was blown away by its super cool interior and by the "rumble".

@chris - It's the only custom modification I did in my entire life for pay.  It was the culmination of his dream car that he wanted in 1:1 life.  The Coronet had dual rear-mounted antennas, dual mirrors, twin hood scoops, filled side quarter panel faux vents, Charger interior, dashboard, and headlights.  I tried to convince him to do the full-width taillight too, but that's not what he wanted.  The only element missing was the torque thrust wheels which I could have lifted from the Bullitt Mustang, but the costs were adding up, and he decided not to go with those.  Here's a Photoshop I did of a 1:1 car that served as the inspiration.

@marty-johnson Wow! I had no idea you once prostituted  yourself, but apparently it all worked out. Good job; it's a handsome cross-bread-Mopar. Those fold down rear seats (in a convertible! ) really caught my eye. 😏

@chris - Yeah, as an afterthought, I wished that I had painted those door jams so that the original blue would be properly black.  It was an oversight on my part.

Ahhh, but that only you and one out of a million people would even think about ! It looks great and after all, it's a special edition from Dodge and that's a custom touch for a unique car in your collection.

Make that "two out of a million"  Mike. LoL 😏 😏   It's not Marty's car, as he noted, he was commissioned to build this for a guy who wanted one in real life. The only difference was the omission of those torque-thrust rims as seen in his Photoshopped  pic. It's a cool Mopar combination that could probably be easily duplicated in 1:1. 😎 😎

Of the 37,344 1966 Dodge Chargers produced only 468 were equipped with the mighty 426 Hemi engine and only 257 of those came with a 4-speed manual transmission.

As much as the Hemi 426 has attained legendary status the truth is it was never a very popular engine with production cars because of its add cost. So those who do have a 426 Hemi do indeed have a very rare car.

@john3976 Yes, you're exactly right. Furthermore, HEMIs from the 1960's were dismissed by some who favored the "true HEMIs"  of the 1950's because only those were thought to be truly bullet-proof.

Ironically of course, today ANY 1960's HEMI car will garner far more than ANY 1950's HEMI car.
