Here are some snaps of the 1968 Mercury Cougar, as done by SunStar. In this case, it is the upgraded version they did of it later with enhanced details and working suspension.

Hi Michael,

I didn’ know there was an upgraded version of this gorgeous Cougar model. I was happy with the gold/blk one I had in 2018. Thanks for all your great pics.

You are welcome ! SunStar did this upgraded version of the Cougar to be nearly in line with the SunStar Platinum Series diecasts. I think there were possibly recommendations to perhaps do this from members at the old Diecast Pub or here at the Diecast Zone. It is a good-looking car model in any case and it is great to see different versions as Ertl sometimes did with standard, elite and Authentics versions of replicas.

....like to see scale sunroofs; not many 1/18 models have sunroofs.    😎 😎 😎

Isn’t there a Sunstar 2dr late model Mercedes Benz that has a working slide roof? Might be a 280SE. I also think Revell had a late 60s MB with a sunroof that just lifted off.

That could well be, as it is a neat detail. Not too many older 1/18 diecasts get a significant upgrade with such details, but it sure can be cool when it happens.

Michael, it's very nice. Some pics it looks dark red and some pics it looks bright red. What color is it?

John, it is rather a dark red, although I think some of my shots make it appear perhaps a brighter red than it is in hand. Chris's fine images perhaps show it a bit darker than it actually is in person, but viewing conditions, the state of the eyes viewing it, and several other factors can influence how items can look or appear under different lightning conditions.

@chris

I appreciate the RWL tires but knowing how picky I am that Cougar would have been taken apart and the interior done up in a beige or caramel color. And I think the parcel shelf should be black. In my world it would be. 😎

@100ford2003 I agree, it's far from perfect....and the trunk is seal, and it has those antiquated "dog legs."     I didn't purchase this Sunstar, it's just a "stock pic"  I lifted from the internet.

The only Cougar I have is arguably the best one available in 1/18 scale - and even then, I rate it a "low end-high end"   if you know what I mean.    🙄 🙄 🙄   It too is far from perfect but better than Sunstar's.
