SunStar did a really good job on the stylish Mercury Cougar for 1968. Cougar was Mercury's slightly bigger and more luxurious version of the Ford Mustang and this one includes a powerful Mercury V-8 and a sunroof. SunStar very nicely upgraded their older Cougar tooling with more details and a working suspension to produce this 1/18 replica.
It was a very good-looking (and performing) automobile and makes a terrific diecast ! "The Mark of the Cat".
I had understood that many years ago, SunStar had asked some knowledgeable people in the hobby if they should upgrade and detail their older, yet still very nice, Cougar 1/18 tooling. They got a favorable response and brought this nice Mercury to near Platinum level.

Nice pics Mike ! I failed to notice the opened sunroof. I'd never seen one of these before.
Only negative comment I have is the black wiper arms.
This is a great model of an awesome car that IMHO was underappreciated in its day. I had a yellow '68 and loved it; another one I should have never sold.

Ouch ! That is a1:1 you wish you would have kept !
It really is such a beautiful car and 1/18 model and the actual Cougar was a pretty hot muscle car with that powerful Mercury V-8 engine.
It was June, 1968 and I was staggering through 16 weeks of Basic Training at Fort Dix, NJ. I was sweating at attention in formation listening to our CO, Capt Cherry saying something I was ignoring when his wife drives up in a brand new Cougar XR-7. It pulled me right out of my stupor... it was gorgeous!
